5 is Chanel's $exiest Number
Clocking in at almost 90 years old (!), something from the Chanel No. 5 line is sold every six seconds; a wonder of the perfume- and marketing-worlds, it still reigns as the No. 1 scent in the world. It's been 5 years since Baz Luhrmann and Nicole Kidman teamed up to create a splashy campaign for the brand (the most costly ad ever) and now a decadent new campaign is in the works. Breaking online with a 2.5 minute movie on, of course, the 5th of May - the 88th anniversary of the day Mademoiselle Coco first introduced the fragrance - the spot is directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and stars French "it" fille, Audrey Tatou.
After first laying eyes on each other traveling on the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul, Tatou and model Travis Davenport play a pair that is repeatedly starcrossed until they finally end up embracing on a mosaic of Chanel's iconic logo C's. If you're particularly eagle-eyed, watch for the myriad No. 5 references throughout, including the number of Tatou's train cabin, and numbers of the train platform.
A sneak peek will be available at ChanelN5.com at the end of April. (via WWD)
